Layering VSCO presets

Layering VSCO presets

@megnlo

First i want to say WOW! Your BO has been very thought provoking for me...and i am learning so much from the materials....I love and adore your vision driven process in your work....i think its safe to say you have a BRILLIANT mind going on in that pretty brain of yours  lol...So thank you for such a great experience! (I am just about finished with the materials) and its been such a joy for me.

I have noticed that you like to layer your VSCO presets on a virtual copy and bring into PS so you can decrease the effect...I myself have always had a love/hate relationship with VSCO presets....i would love them on some of my images and then some i would think it was way too strong for my liking...so i would stop using them...then i would miss them and go back and it was like this complicating dance back and fourth in my post processing lol (i am sure we all can relate)

BUT then...i discovered the LR PRESET FADER PLUG IN by picmonkey....and its only 10 bucks and its free to try but you can only use the standard LR presets that come with LR with the free version....but it was the best 10 bucks i ever spent seriously....it saved me a ton of time and i get to use my VSCO presets the way i like them *nice and subtle* or any preset i want...if something is too strong i go ahead and i open up *THE FADER* and i apply my VSCO preset...(i love film pack 01 and 05)
and i LOVE the look of kodak gold! But anyways i just open the preset fader thru LR and i click on the preset i want...and it applies it and then you can pull back the percentage...just like you would with the opacity in PS! Its seriously a nifty affordable tool...that i don't see many people take advantage of...i had thought about mentioning it before but never got to it...But you can also turn off and on certain effects from the pop up screen that comes up in the fader...like the grain/hsl panel/basic panel etc and it doesn't effect your WB or exposure sliders...but essentially its just going in and bringing down each slider the preset uses even the camera calibration profile...and with the new LR CC/6 you have an option to even increase a preset effect....although i never do that....but i thought it would be helpful to mention that to you! So if you wanted to save an extra step creating a virtual copy etc in your workflow...i think you would really love it! Because it made me fall back in love with my VSCO....because i never wanted to emulate real film...but i do like a subtle *filmy look* to my images...and i think this helps that out by leaps and bounds...

So i thought i would mention it...all you do is google *LR PRESET FADER* or *THE FADER PLUG IN* and it should take your right to the website that its on...

hope i was helpful to you! because your BO has been extremely helpful to me! And i know i tend to RAMBLE when i talk lol so please excuse that!! <333

Mind blown! Thank you Mari! I think that's a $10 plug in I will invest in. I really appreciate it and I'm going to add that link to the editing thread!

    @megnlo I am not sure if this is a good question for this thread or your Q&A but starting here. I thought that was a neat trick making a virtual copy and importing as a layer in PS. I wasn't sure if I was missing something or if it was because I have older versions of LR and I have CS6 but when I go to edit both in PS it opens two separate windows instead of two separate layers. Is there a trick to doing this?

    I love the idea of a plug in but also think sometimes if you are going to bring into PS anyway why not do it the way you did in the video.

    Oh for sure! I myself love to finish working in PS as well....i just wanted to mention it...also for those who don't work in PS....i know a lot of people who stray away from VSCO because they feel like it looks too strong with some of their images and they aren't able to tweak it to their liking...so its worth a shot...but i think either way is a great tool to know....

    Yes, I found that I got two separate windows too. I tried combining them in LR and then exporting to PS, but then couldn't find a way to see the VSCO layer . I had another look at one of Megan's videos, but on the video I watched we don't actually see her send them over, she actually has them up in PS already. I didn't have time to go through all the videos, so solved the problem by bringing the images up in two separate windows, then selecting (cmd 'a'), copying (cmd 'c') the VSCO image, going over to the original image and pasting (cmd 'v') the VSCO image in, whereupon it comes in as a new layer. It seems to have worked:

    Wow love your image! I've attached screenshots on how I import two images into PS and have them layered on top of each other. I hope it helps!

    Ah, thank you @megnlo ! That's fantastic . I get so frustrated sometimes with PS, spending hours trying to work out things which are actually quite simple.

    I've absolutely loved your breakout . I've always been a great fan of your style, but I am even more so now that I've learned how much talent and artistry goes into it.
